Your first inbound sets the tone for every order that follows. A clean receiving record means faster putaway, fewer inventory disputes, and smoother fulfillment from day one.
1. Complete SKU master data
Share SKU codes, product names, barcodes, dimensions, and weight before cartons arrive. Missing barcodes slow scanning and increase manual handling.
2. Carton-level packing lists
Each carton should have a clear quantity breakdown by SKU. Mixed cartons are fine—just label what is inside.
3. Labeling standards
Confirm whether your warehouse expects manufacturer barcodes, FNSKU labels, or channel-specific identifiers before you print thousands of units.
4. Arrival appointment
Book receiving windows early, especially before peak season. Unexpected truck arrivals create dock congestion and delay putaway.
5. Special handling notes
Flag fragile items, liquid products, temperature sensitivity, or kitting requirements up front—not when the pallet is already on the dock.
